FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Since we’ve been helping homeowners get their dream interiors for years, we’re hoping to set your mind at ease by answering the most frequently asked questions.
What if I don’t know my style?
Don’t worry, we specialize in figuring out your style and creating spaces that are specific to your needs and wants.
How do you communicate the design?
We create a presentation of our designs in the form of visual concepts, plans, photos and look sheets. You approve them and then we make it happen.
So what does full-service interior design actually mean?
When you work with us, full-service means that we provide all-inclusive services that work towards the goal of getting you into a completed, fully furnished space. From a construction standpoint, we create the concepts, pull together finishes and materials, create design drawings, submit material specifications, and meet at the job site for reviews. From a decorative standpoint, we select, order, warehouse, and install all of your furnishings (wall coverings, art, furniture, rugs, lighting, etc.). We ask a lot of questions. We advocate for you. We manage all of the details.
How much will my project cost?
That is a difficult question as each project is different from one another. We can tell you the cost is based on the size of the project and the length of time it will take to complete. If you are curious about pricing for a project, please reach out to us and we can begin the process of working together and creating a budget.
How long does a project take?
Most projects take anywhere from 3 to 6 months, depending on the size of the project, the scope and the client’s specific needs. We make certain every detail is covered.
Do you have a design degree?
Yes, Christiana graduated from a FIDER accredited interior design program at Syracuse University. She has 15 years of experience in recognized residential and commercial design firms prior to forming Beach Plum Interiors.
What is your style?
Design is about your standard of beauty, your style and your life regardless of project size and budget. It’s about the architectural details and objects already in your home that bring beauty and highlighting those details. Good design is not about our style, it’s about the designer orchestrating the beauty and details that matter most to you.
What’s the difference between a decorator and a designer?
Fabulous question! Designers are specialized in the psychology of space…who doesn’t want to work with that? Decorators play an important role but they are different from designers. Interior designers are required to have knowledge of building codes, regulations, design concepts, the square footage needed for certain functions, and programming in order to create functional spaces. There’s a certain amount of education and experience required to be an interior designer. Interior decorators focus on furnishing and adorning a space with things like window treatments, pillows, furnishings and accessories. Designers may decorate but decorators do not have the technical background to design. Interior designers apply creative and technical solutions that are functional, attractive and beneficial to the occupants’ quality of life and culture. Be sure to qualify what you need and know when you’re ready to start your project.
Are you going to make me replace everything in my space?
We wouldn’t dream of it! We will review what you own and create a balanced and authentic look that incorporates the items that are most important to you. Do you have your Mother’s chair and love it? Let’s get it recovered and use it! We aren’t design snobs, our vision is beautiful and practical interiors, providing timeless spaces that can be lived in for years.
This process will happen just like it does on TV, right?
No, there’s not a staff of 100 hiding in the back of the studio like what happens on television 😉 Wouldn’t life be grand if it all happened like television?
I love Houzz and Pinterest, can I show you my boards?
YES! Sharing your boards can help us understand your style better, just add us as a collaborator and we’ll go from there. We love effective communication while working closely with our clients.
Can you work with architects and builders?
Christiana is formally trained and experienced, she understands architectural plans and the language. We draw your plans using CAD and our interior specifications are submitted to all parties to keep the entire team informed. Simply put, we work best collaborating directly with architects, builders and contractors to ensure the success of your project.
When should I hire a designer in a project?
Today. OK, maybe not today, but the happiest clients are ones that hire us on Day 1. It’s NEVER too early. We often find that had we been brought into a project earlier, a lot of mistakes could have been avoided. If you’re looking at buying a home or leasing commercial space, let us do a walk through with you. We can assess quickly whether the spaces will function properly for your needs. We know what updates can or can’t be done depending on your budget and schedule. Send us an email and we’ll get to know each other
